Iodine is included in the micro nutrients which are needed in the body for supporting the function of thyroid gland. If people have problem which thyroid gland such as thyroid cancer, they will be suggested to take iodine free diet before taking medical test which is called radioactive immunoassay. Iodine can be found in small amount in the foods and it is difficult to determine the specific content of iodine in the food but there are some foods which can be taken since it is low of iodine.

Starches and Foods with Rich Protein in Iodine Free Diet

Many people follow certain diet program which will restrict them from taking calories in their daily foods. However, we can make sure that calorie is necessary especially calorie from carbohydrate because it will be primary source of energy for the body. However, people should choose the calorie source carefully by choosing the starches which has low iodine content when they follow iodine free diet plan. People can find some allowable starches such as breads, cereals, oatmeal, shredded wheat, barley, pasta, and flour. Foods which are rich in protein should also be consumed and there are some foods which have low iodine content such as unsalted meats including poultry such as chicken and turkey, lamb, veal, beef, and pork.

Fruits, Vegetables, and Fats in Iodine Free Diet

When people are looking for micro nutrients, fruits and vegetables will be a great source of various kinds of minerals. It is great that people can enjoy all fresh fruits as well as vegetables because all fruits and vegetables have low content of iodine. However, people should avoid products from soy, legumes, and also potatoes. For consuming the processed fruits and vegetables, it is better for people to check the food label first to find out about the iodine content. Fats are also necessary in iodine free diet and people can find many fat source such as margarine, unsalted nuts, nut butters, and oils has low iodine content. However, they have to avoid butter.
